Jakarta Wins 68 Gold Medals at POMNas XVIII

The Jakarta contingent succeeded in becoming the General Champion at the National Student Sports Week XVIII (POMNas), South Kalimantan with scores of 68 gold, 34 silver, and 38 bronze medals.

Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency Head, Andri Yansyah said that this year's POMNas, Jakarta also succeeded in exceeding the target set in winning the gold medal.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God) for the achievements that have been made in South Kalimantan with a total of 140 medals," he expressed, Wednesday (11/22).

Moreover, Jakarta also succeeded in becoming General Champion in the five sports that were competed in. The five sports are swimming, chess, martial arts, karate, and badminton.

“Once again I say Thank God. I would like to express my thanks to all the athletes and team officials who have made Jakarta proud at the POMNas event," he explained.

He explained that the achievement of the eighteenth overall champion could certainly be realized with the support of many parties.

"There are athlete parents, coaches, assistant coaches, team doctors, psychologists, massage therapists, and other teams but who support the athletes' achievements. I express my appreciation and thank you," he explained.

He also expressed his appreciation and thanks to Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono; City Secretary, Joko Agus Setyono; assistants and deputies, as well as OPD and BUMD who have provided great support.

"No less important, I would like to express my thanks to the Chair and Vice Chair of the DPRD, Commission E Chair, and Jakarta DPRD Legislators. Thank you also to all residents who have prayed for and supported the Jakarta athletes, thus they again become General Champions at POMNas," he added.

According to him, this achievement must be responded to positively by the athletes thus they can achieve even higher achievements in subsequent competitions in the future, either at national or international levels. So, it cannot only bring Jakarta's good name but also make Indonesia proud at the world level.

"The closest thing to us will be PON XXI in Aceh and North Sumatra next year. It must also be prepared well, thus Jakarta can also become the General Champion," he explained.

He reminded the athletes to continue practicing diligently, always pray, and ask for blessings from their parents, thus everything they dream of can be achieved.

"Insya Allah (God Willing), Jakarta athletes, Indonesian athletes, will be able to compete with foreign athletes on the local and international stage. Success in Jakarta for Indonesia," he uttered.

In the meantime, Chef de Mission of the Jakarta Contingent who also serves as the Jakarta Indonesian Student Sports Advisory Board (Bapomi) Chair, Abdul Sukur also felt grateful and proud of the achievements achieved by young Jakarta athletes at POMNas XVIII.

"Alhamdulillah, this achievement was achieved thanks to the extraordinary support from the Jakarta Government, the Acting Governor, Dispora, and others to Bapomi," he asserted.

He added this achievement could be achieved with seriousness, solidarity, and synergy from all elements involved.

"My thanks and high appreciation to all athletes and team officials. Hopefully, the General Champion's achievements can continue to be maintained by winning more medals at the upcoming POMNas," he uttered.

As for the information, the ceremonial closing of POMNas XVIII took place at the Lambung Mangkurat University Auditorium, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan.

POMNas XVIII takes place from November 12-22, 2023. This year's Indonesian student sports competition carries the theme "Merdeka Berprestasi, Talenta Olahraga Menginsipirasi" dengan tagline "POMNAS Berprestasi, Indonesia Unggul" (Freedom for Achievement, Inspiring Sports Talent" with the tagline "POMNAS Achievement, Indonesia is Superior).

POMNas XVIII, which competed in 16 sports with 209 numbers, was attended by 2,717 students from 34 provinces in Indonesia.
